Used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory, urinary tract, skin, and gastrointestinal infections. Effective against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Commonly used in cases where infection is suspected to be caused by resistant organisms. Administered intravenously or orally in hospital and outpatient settings. Also used in the management of certain types of infectious diarrhea and in prophylaxis for individuals exposed to anthrax.
