Used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, especially those caused by anaerobic bacteria and certain Gram-positive organisms. Commonly prescribed for skin infections, respiratory tract infections, and bone/joint infections. Also used in dental procedures to prevent or treat infections. Effective in treating acne when applied topically, often in combination with benzoyl peroxide or retinoids. An alternative for patients allergic to penicillin. Used in some cases to treat pelvic inflammatory disease and intra-abdominal infections. Available in oral, topical, and injectable forms for systemic and localized treatment.
