Trityl candesartan cilexetil is a synthetic intermediate used in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of candesartan cilexetil, a prodrug for treating hypertension (high blood pressure). The trityl group serves as a protecting group during synthesis, which is later removed to yield the active pharmaceutical ingredient. Candesartan cilexetil is converted in the body to candesartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), which relaxes blood vessels, improves blood flow, lowers blood pressure, and reduces risks of stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems in patients with cardiovascular conditions.
