description Product Description

Used as a solvent in laboratories and industry, especially for resins, waxes, and essential oils due to its ability to mix with both water and organic compounds. It is suitable for non-polar or semi-polar reaction conditions and is commonly used in organic synthesis, such as forming ethers or esters.

Employed as an intermediate in the production of fuel additives, such as methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE), which improve gasoline combustion and reduce emissions. It also serves as a starting material for other chemicals, like methyl methacrylate, a key raw material for plastics and resins.

Acts as a denaturant for ethanol, making it unfit for consumption. In pharmaceuticals and perfumes, it functions as a solvent for extraction or dilution of active ingredients, a reaction medium, or crystallization agent, owing to its low toxicity, fast evaporation, and relative safety compared to other alcohols.

Additionally, used in paint thinners, cleaning products, coatings, and as a component in some insecticides. Its low toxicity makes it suitable for certain cosmetic and personal care formulations.

In laboratories, it is often mixed with water to create a dry ice bath, achieving temperatures of approximately -20 to -25°C for controlling reactions sensitive to heat.
