Used topically to treat bacterial skin infections due to its broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria. Commonly found in ointments and creams for minor cuts, burns, and abrasions. Also used in eye and ear drops for localized infections. Occasionally included in wound dressings and surgical site preparations to prevent infection. Not used systemically due to high risk of kidney damage and hearing loss.
