Mepenzolate Bromide is a quaternary ammonium anticholinergic agent primarily used in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease. It works by blocking muscarinic receptors to inhibit acetylcholine-mediated contractions in gastrointestinal smooth muscle, thereby reducing spasms, pain, and gastric acid secretion. It is also employed adjunctively in other hypersecretory or spastic gastrointestinal conditions. Administered orally as tablets under medical supervision. Not intended for long-term use due to potential anticholinergic side effects including dry mouth, urinary retention, blurred vision, and constipation.
