Used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible gram-positive bacteria, particularly penicillinase-producing staphylococci. Commonly prescribed for skin and soft tissue infections such as boils, abscesses, and infected wounds. Effective in treating respiratory tract infections and bone infections when the causative organisms are sensitive. Often chosen when there is a concern for beta-lactamase-producing strains, as it is resistant to breakdown by these enzymes. Typically administered orally and absorbed well on an empty stomach.
