Used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and gonorrhea. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Commonly administered via intravenous or intramuscular injection in hospital and clinical settings. Also used prophylactically during surgery to prevent postoperative infections. Its broad-spectrum activity and good tissue penetration make it suitable for moderate to severe infections where oral antibiotics are not appropriate.
