Due to its potent analgesic properties and lower risk of respiratory depression compared to opioids, it is considered an alternative in pain therapy where opioid side effects are a concern. However, its use requires careful dosing due to potential cardiotoxic and neurotoxic effects. Also investigated for antiarrhythmic activity, though this remains experimental.
