Prazosin is primarily used in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing the overall pressure within the cardiovascular system. This makes it effective in managing conditions like hypertension and improving heart function.

Additionally, it is prescribed for managing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition where the prostate gland enlarges and causes urinary difficulties. By relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, it helps improve urine flow and reduces discomfort.

Prazosin is also used off-label to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), particularly for alleviating nightmares and sleep disturbances associated with the condition. Its ability to block certain receptors in the brain contributes to this therapeutic effect.

In some cases, it is utilized to manage Raynaud’s phenomenon, a condition characterized by reduced blood flow to the extremities, by dilating blood vessels and improving circulation.
