Used in research for its potential anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic properties, particularly in studies related to cancer cell lines. Shows activity in modulating cellular pathways involved in apoptosis and cell proliferation. Investigated for development of novel chemotherapeutic agents due to its structural similarity to the ellipticine group of bioactive alkaloids, which are known for inhibiting topoisomerase II and disrupting DNA replication in cancer cells. Also employed as a reference standard in analytical studies of natural product derivatives. Currently in the laboratory research stage and not yet in clinical use.
