Also employed in managing male pattern hair loss, it promotes hair regrowth and prevents further hair thinning by lowering scalp and serum DHT levels. Its action is specific to the type II 5α-reductase enzyme, making it effective in tissues where this isoenzyme is dominant. Due to its mechanism, it is taken orally and requires consistent long-term use to maintain benefits. Not suitable for use in women, especially during pregnancy, due to risk of fetal harm.
